Wednesday 13th August - Drive to Jaguarland

A more leisurely breakfast at around 7.00 am and then packing up, collecting everything and meeting the others in the lobby to load the cars and set off for Jaguarland. Along the way we saw mostly similar birds, with Vultures, Groove-billed Anis, Doves and a few Whistling Herons and egrets. The landscape was much more agricultural

We stopped for lunch in San Pedro with a nice salad and coca cola and then drove on, crossing from tar to tracks and making our way to the farm. On the way we had Coati, Howler monkey and a lovely Sloth.

We arrived at the camp, sorted out our tents and found our way round camp. Having dumped our gear and used the facilities we loaded up the cars and set off on our first drive.

We drove around the tracks, many of them near water in ponds, pools and ditches seeing lots of birds, like Vultures, Screamers, Rufous Tiger Heron, Parrot, and a Sunbittern in the gathering gloom, we also saw Capybara but our target was Jaguarundi so we concentrated on the ‘best areas’ for this cat. We didn’t see one but we did see Crab-eating fox  before returning to base around 8.30 for supper.

We spent a bit of time round the camp with the bat detector, getting Greater Bulldog bat, which we could see flying around the aerial mast. Sarah and I wanted to use the loo but someone was in there having a shower and seemed to be in there forever so we eventually resorted to a bush stop before turning in.
