Day 7. Tuesday.
Although it was a late start we weren’t last as Sean came in 10 minutes later. We had the usual buffet breakfast, got a taxi to the police station and found it shut. A quick phone call and someone came to the door and let us in. David went through the form with a very nice policeman then we waited while he put it all on his computer and produced an official report for David to sign and take a copy for the insurers. This took a little time and we spent it looking through the Zeiss dialyse telescope they had looking out across the fjord. As we left David noticed a clump of Arctic harebells by the police station wall. We walked down the road to another geocache, but we couldn’t find it anywhere.
We started walking back to town so David could buy a new pair of bins then decided to get a taxi as the road went a long way round before heading back into town. The taxi picked us up and dropped us outside the sports shop we had visited yesterday and David explained the problem and bought a new pair, given that the price was minus 20% at least. We arranged for the taxi driver to return, pick us up and take us back up the hill, which he did. We then shot into our rooms and hastily packed our bags, checked out of the CMCs and then waited for the bus to take us to the airport. Jake found some close Ptarmigan but we didn’t have time to go and see them.
The bus arrived, we loaded our cases and got on. The make shift strap I used to make up for the broken handle seemed to work quite well. The bus took an interesting route, picking up people as it went before heading to the airport where we sorted out our checkin, printed the baggage labels, put the cases through the system and then David, Sean and Jake went out for half an hour. Brenda and Alan went through security and I followed. A quick lunch of pizza, hotdog and coke and then we were called to the plane.
The flight to Oslo involves a stop at Tromso to get off the plane with all gear, collect hold luggage, take it back through checkin, go back through security and then reboard the plane. As we were settling back into our seats, David had a minor panic as he couldn’t find his passport, a thorough search of pockets, coat and bag didn’t find it. A query from David as to was I sitting on it revealed his passport, quite safe. The rest of flight was uneventful until we landed at Oslo for our onward flight to Heathrow.
