Baratpur

The next morning our driver was there to take us to Baratpur and again we were very glad that he was driving as there did not seem to be any rules other that get there first and blow your horn. We stopped for breakfast at a tourist stop and saw Purple sunbird, Red-wattled Lapwing, Painted Stork, the first of many Pond Herons and egrets.
We arrived at Baratpur around 1.00, met our guide and agreed to an afternoon walk round the park.
We spent a bit of time in the hotel grounds chasing butterflies before being picked up and taken to the park.
The place is amazing, even thought he kept saying it wasn't too wet, there were birds everywhere - we made 90 species just in the afternoon, including large-tailed and grey nightjar, spotted owlet, Indian and Great spotted eagles and more painted storks. We also had jackal, macaque monkey and monitor lizard.
