Baratpur - day 2

Following an early breakfast we were picked up at 7.30 and taken to the park to meet our guide. We went for a walk outside looking for Indian Courser but no luck. However we did see Black-winged kite, Yellow wattled Lapwing and Indian Robin. Then we went inside and walked around for the rest of the day. We ended up with an amazing 116 species in one day. The places we went were all wet and we saw Treepies, Eagle Owl, Open-billed stork and more painted storks. Lots of eagles, marsh harrier and egrets and herons of all shapes and sizes, including Black Heron. We also got Flame-backed woodpecker which is a stunner.

As we walked through the trees we heard a strange call which turned out to be an Oriental Honey Buzzard. We managed great views of it and the honey comb which was presumably it's food source.

By the time it came to go back to the hotel I was exhausted but it really is worth the effort!!! You get taken in and out by rickshaw which makes it easier to start but once he goes you're on you're own with very few others around although the main track was busy at times.
