We had breakfast and then kept trying to contact the airlines, who were not responding at all. As the news from the Middle East wasn’t good we didn’t expect to get home today, but we did expect to hear something from the airlines although it became more and more apparent that that wasn’t going to happen. We booked another night’s stay and then booked a taxi to take us to Okla Barrage to do some birding. Unfortunately it was closed, which was a shame as it is, from memory, a good site for birds.
There was a track on the other side of the river, back over the bridge, which we walked up finding some birds, with lots of water birds to look through. The track entered through what looked like a house and garden then meandered up a spine with lots of trees and various views on both sides.
At the entrance were the ever present 6-striped Squirrels. We wandered along slowly, trying to catch up with the others. A gap in the trees gave views of lots and lots of ducks, including Garganey, Shoveler, Gadwall and Wigeon, with Spot-billed duck, Pintail, Teal, Pochard and Ferruginous Ducks. In amongst them were a new bird for most of us, Tufted Duck. Across the water were three Whiskered Terns and Little and Great Cormorants were on tree branches and flying around. Towards the end of the spit there was a Nilgai, which melted away. In the trees the others found Yellow-footed Green Pigeons and Indian Pied Starlings, which luckily stayed around until we caught up.
A short stop on the way back found a Kingfisher, visible between the railings
We went back to the hotel where we talked about what to do next. We decided to move to Sultanpur tomorrow, somewhere near Dehli in case we got a message that they were flying us home but also near the nature reserve and out of the city. We had dinner at the restaurant before going back, packing ready for a move to Sultanpore.
