Getting up around 5.45 am as usual we spent a few minutes birding round the grounds. One tree was full of birds with Clay-coloured Thrushes, Tityra, tanagers and Hoffman's woodpeckers.
Then we set off to the track from the dam, parking at the bottom of the track where there were several Black Vultures sitting around. We walked up the track looking for Keel-billed Motmot with no sign of the Potoo from last night. There were several Rufous-tailed hummers flitting about and a group of Coatis were foraging along the edge of the track. A quick burst of song and we were looking at the Motmot close to the track.
The vegetation along the track held Bay and Black-throated Wrens, Buff-rumped Warbler and a Long-tailed Tyrant gave distant views on a creeper towards the top of the jungle.
Back at the Hotel we sat down to a breakfast of rice and beans, scrambled eggs and plantain, with a pair of Palm Tanagers hopping around the tables and a Rufous-tailed Hummer resting on a branch preening. A quick check round the gardens found a Yellow-bellied Eleania and Golden-headed Tanager and then Luis found our first 2 toed sloth lolling on a branch.
We set off for Sarapiqui with a stopping along the road for various birds. We stopped off in a supermarket car park. Looking around the trees Luiz found 2 Two-toed Sloths and a Three-toed Sloth lolling around on the branches. Great views. We then had an ice cream before moving on. We stopped off at Luiz’s apartment where he showed us Honduran White Bat and Fruit-eating Tent-making Bats amongst the trees and palms. We then had lunch in Puerto Veijoto, sitting on the pavement watching the locals go about their daily life.

We stopped at the edge of La Selva and walked down a track to the river where we had a Broad-billed Motmot and a kingfisher.
We drove to our nex accommodation, Suena Azul, with a Bat falcon on a tree on the road in. It had some lovely habitat and the grounds covered quite a large area with some flowers to great us.

We settled in with dinner ar 7.30. Heavy rain meant we didn't go out again. Frogs in water pools in plant. A Large Owl Moth was by the reception window.
