We were up and out at 6 am as usual for a walk up the hill to a track on the right in company with the small dog that had joined us last night. It was very windy and birding was difficult especially hearing them.
After breakfast we drove to Sante Elena Reserve, parked and walked up to the entrance. We walked a couple of trails with a highlight of a male Resplendant Quetzal, some birds. We heard Bellbird quite close but just coulden't track it down. On the track back down there was a short diversion to a tower hide which we took and it was well worth the effort to climb it as there was a great view across to Arenal Volcano as well as an orchid in a tree at top level height.
As we returned to Santa Elena for lunch we almost trod on a colourful millipede of about 3 inches long and we stopped to look at an Elephant's Ear arum, the largest I have ever seen.
Lunch was a restaurant with great views across the forest and a balcony to eat on. Then we drove to Monte Verdi where although it was a bit late for entry we still had time to visit the hummingbird feeders and the shop.
Dinner out.
