Fluorescent Scorpions and Fischer's Estuarine Moths

Following some discussion we agreed to meet up around 6.15 and drive up to Sheerness for a look at the scorpions that live on the walls of the port and then on to look for Fischer's Estuarine Moth which inhabits stands of Hog's Fennel that grow on the seaward side of the parade in Seasalter.
Our first stop was at the perimeter wall of the docks. Parking up we turned on the UV torches and soon found several scorpions hiding in the cracks and crevices. One or two ventured out and foraged across the bricks. The Yellow-tailed scorpions glow blue under UV light and look like egyptian jewels.

Having spent some time with the scorpions we then headed to Seasalter where we parked along the Parade where we could see some stands of Hog's Fennel. Searching through the plants several female Fischer's Estuarine Moths were found clinging to the stems giving great views and easy photographs. We spent some time looking through the plants before setting off home after a really enjoyable evening.
